Frequently Asked Questions

1. About the author...

I developed the Allied Journal Club in 1999 as a FREE service for health care professionals to stay up-to-date with the medical literature.

When I started this project I had little formal training in website design. In fact, I did not even own a computer!

I did, however, have a clear vision as to what I wanted; a website that would automatically keep me up-to-date on the medical literature.

So, I researched the subject of website design and read as much as I could about HTML, perl scripts, cgi-bins, file transfer protocols, GIFs, JPEGs and more...much, much more!

Oh yeah, I also bought a computer!

After 3 site redesigns and countless hours spent in front my computer updating and maintaing the site, I am pleased to say that I have developed a tool that many health care professionals have found to be very useful!

In fact, I was awarded a Commitment to Care Award for the site from Pharmacy Practice Magazine.

My interest in information technology and website design in particular has led me to develop various other projects based on the ideas of saving time and improving access to information.

As you can probably figure out, I am keenly interested in developing internet-based resources for health professionals. But I haven't quit my day job yet!

I currently work as a pharmacist on the Multi Organ Transplant Service at the University Health Network - Toronto General Hospital.

2. Why did you redesign the aJc?

The website was redesigned to make it more user friendly.

I am confident that aJc members will be pleased with the site's new look and feel!

Key features of the site redesign include:

1. Improved user interface - Users may subscribe and unsubscribe to multiple e-update lists at the same time.

2. More journals - The aJc has expanded to include more medical and allied health journals!

3. Privacy Policy - The aJc has developed a formal Privacy Policy assuring users that their personal information is maintained in strict confidence.

4. HON Compliant - The site is now fully compliant with the Health on the Net Code of Conduct for Medical and Health Web Sites.

3. How do I subscribe to the aJc?

Subscription to the Allied Journal Club is FREE!

Simply fill out the Subscription Form to register. Once you have filled out the information a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you.

To activate your subscription simply follow the instructions in the e-mail. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail then you may have entered an incorrect e-mail address. If this is the case then return to the aJc and complete the form again.

This confirmation system prevents others from registering you to this service without your permission. If you delete the confirmation e-mail without activating your subscription then you will NOT receive e-updates from the aJc.

4. How do I unsubscribe from the aJc?

To unsubscribe from the aJc enter your e-mail address into the e-Update List Removal Form . (This link is also included in the footer of each e-update sent.)

All of the e-update lists that you are subscribed to will then be displayed. You may then unsubscribe from a specific list or unsubscribe from all lists.

After you have unsubscribed from an e-update list you will receive a confirmation e-mail. This confirmation system prevents others from unsubscribing you from this service without your permission.

5. Who uses the aJc?

The aJc is used by physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals.

Although most of the site's users are from Canada and the United States, the site is regularly used by professionals world-wide!
